Leonardo Amadeo
Leonardo Amadeo is an Indonesian/Croatian filmmaker whose work explores the intricate nature of human existence. His films have an unsettling style, drawing inspiration from the mundane and the extraordinary aspects of life. Amadeo's perspective was formed in Bali, finding creative impetus not in idyllic portrayals but in the "filth" and "deformity" he perceives in his daily surroundings. After years of internalizing these observations and develo...ping his artistic sensibilities, he made his debut as a director in 2024 with the short film "Story of the Fish". This film, alongside "I Love To Dance", and later in 2025, "Neopolis", cemented Amadeo's arrival as a filmmaker with a distinct vision in his first trilogy, "Absurda". The critical and stylistic approach of these early films established key elements of Amadeo's filmmaking, including long takes, intimate close-ups, and a preference for atmospheric sound design over extensive dialogue. Amadeo’s early films are predominantly shot in black and white, a deliberate choice reflecting his thematic focus on psychological and philosophical depths. His style often evokes surreal mystery and a dreamlike sensory experience, showcasing his versatility in visual storytelling.
