Godfrey Massauli - Double Feature

Godfrey Massauli

Godfrey Masauli lives in a small village just outside of Blantyre, Malawi. His uncle, and greatest role model, was one of the first black men flying airplanes in Malawi. From a very young age, Godfrey had intentions to follow in his uncle's footsteps and become a great pilot himself. Things changed in the 90's when the country's currency suffered inflation so significant that the increased cost of fuel and spare parts was enough to cause his unc...le to shut down his business and sadly, never sat foot in an aircraft again. Shattered and without direction, Godfrey let go of his dream and, once out of school, found himself working construction and selling charcoal on the side. Recently, luck fell upon him and he met Canadian, Benjamin Jordan, who, through means of producing a documentary, ultimately taught him to paraglide. As Malawi's only paraglider pilot, Godfrey now supports himself and his family by traveling from school to school, delivering motivational talks to students, encouraging them to follow their dreams. He is working towards building a permanent structure from which he will host his inspirational curriculum and open Malawi's first motivational and paragliding school, The School of Dreams, the subject of Jordan's upcoming documentary. Now an inspirational celebrity in Malawi, Godfrey has been giving presentations to larger and more mature audiences, including a 15 minute TED Talk at the start of June (2013).
