Raoul Wallenberg was a Swedish diplomat who spent 1944–1945 in Budapest and during that time, using his authority as a representative of a neutral country and his personal connections among the military, saved the lives of tens—according to some estimates, up to hundreds—of thousands of Hungarian Jews. In January 1945, Wallenberg was detained by the Soviet secret police; rumors about his fate vary. Filmmakers from the progressive creative association "Chetver" from the "Kyivnaukfilm" studio traced the attempts of Wallenberg's relatives to find the truth in the perestroika USSR.
