In 1975, the year designated for the preservation of historical monuments, Dieter Wieland denounced the many architectural eyesores in Bavarian villages, the destruction of the traditional village landscape through the massive widening of roads through villages, the demolition of old buildings, and the construction of new, identical-looking concrete buildings and yodeler-style houses with lots of rustic kitsch.
