It’s bad luck, warns Grandma Rose, if you dream of eating meat. February Omen documents a superstition inherited from a Sicilian matrilineage. Upon waking from a meat-dream, paranoia carves out scenes of professional butchery and precarious downtown construction sites. The macabre black & white Super 8 images of February Omen are set against the eerie score of duo-sonore, Programmique. Meat follows us from the dream-realm to the waking-world to somewhere-in-between as we listen to Grandma Rose probe superstitious memories. One week after recording her dialogue my Grandma Rose was diagnosed with advanced stage lung cancer, ravaging her ability to use her voice.
