A young Quechua midwife sings to pregnant women, soothing their pain through her singing. Her mother, a veteran midwife, understands this gift as a miracle bestowed by the Gods. Influenced by her best friend, and after suddenly disconnecting from her mother, the young woman decides to leave for the city. The community begins to suffer the mysterious death of animals and crops; the community members attribute this as punishment for the young woman's departure. Her mother decides to travel to the city and embark on a search to bring her back.
